1- Sprinter Sacre
You won’t find a better inspirational story than that of Sprinter Sacre who faced great odds in the way of achieving lasting glory. He was one of the finest racehorses and went on winning one race after another. However, a heart problem put his racing career in jeopardy.
Sprinter Sacre grabbed headlines from the very beginning of his career. He went on an incredible winning run which included victories at the Tingle Creek Chase, Arkle Challenge and the Queen Mother Champion Chase. Unfortunately, his winning streak got interrupted when he pulled up in the 2013 Desert Orchid Chase and was later found to be suffering from a heart complication.
This problem affected his racing career a great deal. He was nowhere near the same level and started performing badly in races. In the end, he managed to win one race after about two and a half years. But that victory played a great role in getting his previous form back. He registered an unforgettable victory in the Queen Mother Champion Chase where he prevailed even after making a mistake three fences from home.
2- Red Rum
Red Rum is one of the most beloved racehorses in the United Kingdom. He led an early life of obscurity but later he included himself among the true greats. The legendary horse performed the unique feat of winning the Grand National for a record three times.
His successes are all the more incredible because he had an incurable bone disease called pedal osteitis. Ginger McCain is hugely credited for his efforts to cure Red Rum of his disease and training him to such a great success.
His first Grand National victory came in 1973 when he made such a dramatic turnaround that everyone was absolutely stunned. At the last fence, Crisp was leading by 15 lengths and it looked the contest was over for the other horses. However, Red Rum came thundering and pulled off the miracle feat of winning that race by a small margin.
Red Rum named the next year’s Grand National too and came in second for the subsequent two years. In the 1977 Grand National, Red Rum showed his true potential and easily claimed the race by a huge margin. That victory is now regarded as one of the greatest moments in horse racing history.
