Willie Mullins dealt another blow for the Cheltenham Festival

A second of Willie Mulllins’ entries for the Champion Hurdle at next month’s Cheltenham Festival has had to pull out of the running. Arcade Fire who was runner up in last year’s race and one of the favourites again to win this year has had to pull out due to injury. On his Twitter account, Mullins wrote “Unfortunately, Arctic Fire is out of @CheltenhamRaces. It looks like he has a little chip off a sesamoid bone which will need to be removed”.

The news will come as another massive disappointment for the trainer as this is the second horse he’s had to pull out of the race within a week. Many horse racing betting news sites had Faugheen as favourite to win the race this year, but he has also picked up an injury that will force him out of the race. His trainer Willie Mullins once again broke the news on Twitter, this time saying that a sore suspensory ligament would rule him out of the race. This injury would have come as a bigger blow than that to Arcade Fire, as Mullins really wanted last year’s winner Faugheen to claim back to back victories.

But Willie Mullins’ stable is so strong that despite losing two of his horses from the race, many horse racing betting news websites are still suggesting that he is still favourite to win the race. In fact it’s not just the Champion Hurdle where Mullins looks strong. Horse racing betting news provider Bookies are reporting that bookmaker Betway are even offering odds of 11/1 for Mullins to secure four victories in just the first day of the festival. The bookmakers are offering the 11/1 odds on accumulators that bet on Min, Douvan, Faugheen and Annie Power all winning their respective races. This is just one of the many accumulator bets that are expected throughout the Cheltenham Festival. Luckily the Bookies site will help you compare a number of bookmakers for the best odds as well as provide quality journalism to keep you up to date with all your horse racing betting news.

So now Arcade Fire and Faugheen are out of the race, which of Mullins’ horses could cross the line first instead? Well many bookmakers have three of his horses as the top three favourites to win the Champion Hurdle. The first, Annie Power, hasn’t had any notably good performances to reassure betting fans that she could win the Champion Hurdle. The horse hasn’t really had much success at previous festivals, only coming second in the World Hurdle a couple of years ago. But this is the horse that Mullins has publically said will win the race for him this year. If he fails, then Nichols Canyon and Sempre Medici both also look like strong possibilities for the win.
